On May 30th anti colonialist working group held a public discussion on the continued internment and torture of Irish Republican Activist Marian Price. after general discussion on the case and an update on the fact that UN docters will be visiting her to access her medical condition, which has seriously deteriorated due to her incarceration, people were given a chance to write a letter to unelected British Secretary of state of Northern Ireland Owen Patterson.
Letters that were written showed the level of rage in our community at the arbitrary imprisonment of Irish Republican activists such as Marian Price. Below are some excerpts from letters people have written.
“Owen Patterson did you lock her up because you believe the state is better off with her out of the way? What do you fear……is it her spirit?….she should be freed as her internment is an affront to justice”
“Interned unjustly, I demand that Marian Price, Mother, sister daughter,be released”
“Its no wonder groups like the RIRA exist and that there is civil unrest…..your treatement of Price shows that you are like Idi Amin”
“How would you like it if your mother, wife sister was being treated like Price?”
One person whose family is holocaust survivors compared the internment of Price and other Republicans to the Nazis rounding up of labour leaders, communists and dissidents.
Letters will be dropped off at the British consulate, where a delegation go and demand the Freedom of Marian Price. If you missed the letter writing night and want to let Owen Patterson send him an email demanding her freedom
