Anti Colonialist Working Group Crash British Consulate In Solidarity With Black Mountain Irish Republicans in Belfast

6 Jul

Friday July 6th:

Members of the Anti-Colonialist Working Group crashed the British Consulate in Toronto demanding justice for the victims of loyalist mob violence on Black Mountain during the recent Queen’s visit to Belfast.

Today members of the Anti-Colonialist Working Group from both Kitchener and Toronto unfurled a 5 yard long blood-red banner inside the British Consulate. It read “BRITISH DEATH SQUADS OUT OF IRELAND” in bold letters. We demanded to speak with someone to read our statement and ensure that a copy be forwarded to the unelected British Secretary of State of Northern Ireland, Owen Patterson.

We were greeted by the Acting Consul General whose voice was full of fake concern; good old fashioned British politeness which is so sickly-sweet and irritatingly dismissive. He said, “if you had booked an appointment and I knew you were coming, I would have worn my suit.” … which basically means he would have made arrangements to have more cops.

After reading our statement and bringing up our concern about the Police Services of Northern Ireland (PSNI) provoking and facilitating this attack, making it clear that they are no different than the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC). Afterwards we engaged in the nauseating exchange of bullshit pleasantries and took to the streets to picket. We handed out 300 flyers and received enthusiastic responses from passers-by: Irish immigrants, concerned families, and members of the working class.

We salute the brave people of Belfast who are holding steadfast with their ideologies in the face of mass political repression. We demand the end to the British occupation of the six counties and freedom for all Irish political prisoners and Prisoners of War.

Statement of Anti Colonialist Working Group
Condemning Black Mountain Attack and English Provocation
The recent attack in Belfast by loyalist mobs armed with hatchets and knives against Irish Republicans is reminiscent of the lynching’s in the southern united states by the KKK in the twentieth century. Their only “crime” being their political beliefs, a display of their flag on Black Mountain in the face of a foreign occupying monarch. This in indicative of the new era of Anglo-Irish relationships, ultimately being the same as the old era of Anglo-Irish where political disputes between the colonizers and colonized is dealt with through brute force, paramilitary attacks and mob violence.
The Anti-Colonialist Working group in Canada condemns this most recent attack against Irish Republicans and recognizes the fact that the PSNI not only did not stop this attack but provoked it. They did this through attempting to remove this banner earlier which clearly demonstrates that they are no different than the RUC (another armed wing of British Colonialism that works hand in hand with loyalist mobs to attack and destroy anyone who takes a stand in asserting the rights of Irish people as a nation to determine their own Destiny).
Our hearts and supports go out to the victims of this most recent attack on Irish Republicans and we salute the brave people of Belfast for having the courage to defend their Ideology and hold high there banner of national sovereignty in the face of British aggression.
