Poem my mom wrote when friend was sent to jail on Christmas

3 Jul

A long time ago, a friend of mine was arrested for being out past curfew because they had no place to go. I convinced my mom to bail her out and on Christmas eve she was sentenced to jail. My mom, having a good heart cried at the injustice and as a result wrote this poem. Only recently have I found it. I hope you enjoy

On Peaceful Christmas Eve

With empty eyes, and hungry,
a homeless who will grieve
the child was begging pennies
on peaceful Christmas Eve.

The law is tough on beggars,
this sin will not forgive:
to have no food or shelter
on peaceful Christmas Eve.

They took her to The Courtroom
the sentence to receive,
a poor girl in tears
on peaceful Christmas Eve.

From Heaven, loving Father
the mankind to forgive,
Saint Mary prayed in stable
on peaceful Christmas Eve.

The love of God Almighty
receiving we should give;
no child should sob in jail
on peaceful Christmas Eve.
