…until we all are free!!!Report on KW Prisoners Justice day Action

11 Aug

Today people gathered in front of the court house with literature, flags and a banner to commemorate Prisoners Justice Day. In this time of austerity and political repression, this anniversary is more important now than ever before.

Starting at 9 am until 5 pm people handed out literature to passerbyers and cigarettes to inmates getting out on bail.

Most inmates who were getting out were happy to see us commemorating this date and were very proud to have participated in the 24 hungerstrike and work stoppage to remember those who died in prison, to win them the rights that are being clawed back by the Harper government. When prisoners who were being transported back to jail saw our banner they kicked and banged on the side of the transportation unit letting us know that those outside and inside stand united on basic rights of inmates being respected.

All in all the day was a success with most people supporting our cause. We will continue to fight for basic rights of people and resist both the political and economic repression that seeks to fill the prisons with our bodies
