Multiple 911 calls as neighbours report vehicle speeding away early Friday morning

By Matthew Robinson, Vancouver Sun, April 5, 2014
Officers raced toward the North Vancouver home of a former investment adviser and the now head of two Canadian resource exploration companies after a shooting in that city’s Highlands neighbourhood early Friday morning.Mounties received multiple 911 calls from the 3800-block of Sunnycrest Drive around 12:35 a.m., including a call from someone inside a house that had been hit by multiple gunshots, said Cpl. Richard de Jong, a spokesman with North Vancouver RCMP.

None of the residents home at the time of the shooting were injured in the attack, de Jong said. He added that neighbours reported hearing a speeding vehicle flee the area after the shots were fired.

Officers taped off a large, two-storey home shortly after the shooting while police investigators began a search for forensic evidence.

The registered owners of the taped-off residence are Johnathan More and Taylor Rae More, listed on the property title as an executive and a consultant, respectively. It is not known whether either owner was inside the $3-million home at the time of the shooting.

Johnathan More is president and CEO of Aldrin Resource Corp., a junior uranium company that is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. The company recently announced its crews had begun drilling in search of uranium at its property in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin.

He is also named as a director of Athabasca Nuclear, another Venture-listed uranium explorer, and the CEO and director of Mira Resources Corp., an oil and gas company with projects in West African countries Ghana and Angola.

More is listed on the Mira website as a former investment adviser and the founder of JM Finance LTD, a Canadian venture capital company. More did not return calls for comment on this story.

De Jong could not say if or why the home was targeted.

“We are appealing to the public for any assistance if they saw any suspicious vehicle or occurrence at the time,” he said. “We are speaking to the homeowners, to anyone who knows anything, to try to determine if this was targeted or was this a random shooting …

“For us, public safety is paramount and the police are taking this matter very seriously.”

Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting.
