Good Bye James Rees You Will Be Missed

1 Apr

Recently the downtown community was shocked to find out about yet another death in our community. James was a friend to many and over the years that ive known him he participated in many programs to help those in need. From Tent citys in Victoria park to protests to serving free food he was always around and helpful and despite his somewhat abrasive manner at some times those who knew him knew that he cared deeply about his friends and people in the down town community. Last time I really talked to him was several weeks ago we chatted about some of the programs that we are running now and how he could plug in. I talked to him about how I was off the drink for quite some time and joked about how most people when they quit drinking they have more money and only Julian becomes more broke when he quits and we joked about the last time we both got really drunk and how he lost his phone and antics that we had and I was kinda razzing him and vise versa. I was suppose to hang out with him on friday at a friends birthday but got stuck in toronto and finding out that he was gone yesterday was truly a shock. His death has had a deep impact in the downtown community as one more person taken way before their time, and the continued deaths of loved ones in our community is like a wound that never closes. I hope he is in a better place and he will be missed as many have loved him.
