Report on 32CSM Int. Dept. occupation of Liberal office in Solidarity with Venezuela

20 Jan

On Thursday January 18th, the 32 Country Sovereignty Movement Int. Dept. lead a peacful sit-in in the Liberal Party’s office in Kitchener Ontario, to protest the anti-democratic expulsion of the Venezuelan embassador from Canada. This expulsion was a decision made by the Liberal Trudeau governement, and we as peace-loving people that beleive in people’s sovereignty and equity beleive this is only fanning the flames of international intervention.

The 32 county Sovereignty Movement beleives in the right to Irish people, and therefore all people, to self-determination, which is a human right. The 32 CSM understands, as a movement representing a people under English occupation, that a people cannot be free and live in peace as long as their sovereignty is breached.

Venezuela’s progressive governement has been accused of being anti-democratic by the most powerful countries in the world. This accusation is echoing throughout the most powerful media souces, mostly based on american soil, like CNN, FOX, MSNCB, but also CBC and CTV, National Post, etc.

This accusation is not founded on fact, but is truly a case of the old expression that says that if you repeat a lie long enough you may just begin to beleive it.

Venezuela, in order to open up and increase their democratic process, recently installed a Constituent Assembly, which is yet another democratic instance where the Venezuelan people will be able to express their collective will. There was also a recent regional elections, that was internationally monitored, and the Pro-Socialist Maduro government won the regional elections as well.

These elections were not contested by the international observers who were on the ground. The only voices chanting that Venezuela is anti-democratic are also the voices that have begun to openly declare their intention of interfering in the internal affairs of Venezuela.

Such is the case of the Canadian embassador to Venezuela, who was declared by the Venezuelan State as no longer welcome, or person “non-grata”, because of the breach of international law that he was committing by violating the principle of State Sovereignty.

So Canada in return expelled the Venezuelan embassador. Why, you ask? Well, for absolutely no fault of his own, besides belonging to a State that is asserting is international right to sovereignty.

Have you ever heard of the saying an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind? Well this is an example of why “An eye for an eye” is not good international policy. This is not how we canadians want to do international politics. We as people living on this land denounce this act done in our name. It seems that Canada is just pandering to the United States interests, following the widely unpopular leader Donald Trumps footsteps.

We occupied the Liberal office because we want to make it known this is unacceptable. The Liberal office gave us a meeting with Raj and Bardish next week, so that we as members the 32 county sovereignty movement of Ireland in Canada can demand that the Venezuelan embassador be reinstated!

Long Live Peoples Sovereignty!

32CSM Int. Dept. Kicks off Campaign to remove 32CSM from terror list.

20 Jan

On Thursday January 18th, in Kitchener Ontario, 32 County Sovereignty Movement of Ireland launched it’s newest campaign. The call is to destroy the terror list in Canada and the United States, and recognise that the 32 County Sovereignty Movement of Ireland is not a terrorist group, as it is a political group that asserts the irish people’s right for self-determination.

The event began with Louisa Worrell introducing the International League of Peoples Struggle, which is and anti-imperialist international organisation that the 32 CSM is part of. The ILPS explained how, as part of our charter, we have a duty to fight all forms of human rights abuses, including unfair emprisonnement, extra-judicial killings, political repression and persecution of human rights defenders. The ILPS knows that the biggest human rights abusers are in fact the imperialist States, such as Canada, and therefore stands firmly behind the call initiated by the Red Sparks Union, and now taken up by the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, that Canada and United States should scrap the terror list as they are in no position to identify terrorist groups as they are some of the worst human rights violators in the world.

The next presentation was from Martin Rafferty from the National Council of the 32 CSM. He spoke about how the 32 County Sovereignty Movement grew from the denounciation of the Good Friday Agreement as a breach of the people’s sovereignty when it was being debated by Sinn Fein in the mid-1990s. Once the internal group was kicked out of Sinn Fein, they became challenged the Good Friday Agreement in the international arena, at the level of the UN. It is at that time that this group was put on the terrorist list of a couple countries. Martin Rafferty explained some of the consequences that this has had on the activists and the organisation 32 County Sovereignty Movement as a whole.

Finally, we heard from Julian Ichim, an activist with the 32 CSM who spoke to us about their personal journey as an activist who has terrorism charges laid against them in the United States for being a member of the 32 CSM. This fact, combined with the anti-terror law of Harper government, has allowed for the State to legally deny Julian life-saving medicine. Julian’s battle against chronic pain and the heart condition that is caused by the untreated pain is being used as a weapon by the Canadian state to stop their political activity.

Julian Ichim is a life-long human rights defender, and has always stood against terrorism as a political weapon. It is cruel and ironic that this person would be so violently attacked by the Canadian and United States imperialist countries by being accused of being a terrorist. The Canadian State is currently denying Julian life-saving medicine because of these trumped-up charges of terrorism.

As the room listened in horror and shock of the description of the current situation, many people were moved to action. The campaign was launched in Kitchener and there will be fundraising as well as letter writing that are already being planned by the groups on the ground.

We resolved that we need to weild our greatest weapon as a sheild from this campaign of State-sponsored murder of our dear comrade Julian Ichim, is the weapon of collective political action. We must take action and get to the root of the issue: national liberation is not terrorism, not for the Haundesoneega inidgenous nation, not for the Huron-Wendat Nation, not for the Irish nation, not for the Kahnawa’ke nation, not for the Palestinian nation, not for the Colombian nation either.

We demand that the Canadian and United States government scrap the terrorist list and that the 32 CSM no longer be considered a terrorist organisation.

We demand that Julian Ichim have full access to healthcare!

We demand that all peoples have the right to self-determination!
