Given the fact that Micheal Campbell is in jail due to a sting operation spearheaded by M15 which is know for it dirty tricks, given the fact that Micheal Campbell is a citizen of the EU and as such he has the right to be repatriated to finish his prison sentence in Ireland, and finally given the fact that his treatment in prison in Lithuania is contrary to the Geneva convention we pledge to fight to raise awareness around his case until he is returned home.

Devastating Southern Alberta Floods

Salute the Workers and People of Southern Alberta

More than 175,000 people across southern Alberta were forced to evacuate their homes due to massive flooding caused by heavy rains that began late last week. On Monday, June 24, 27 communities were under a state of emergency, although several were rescinded later in the day. Three people lost their lives, drowning in the raging Highwood river which runs through the town of High River, 37 kilometres south of Calgary. In particular, the towns of High River, Canmore, Bragg Creek and the City of Calgary have been severely impacted. Siksika, Tsuu Tina and Stoney First Nations have also been hard hit by the floods. Over 75,000 people in 25 Calgary neighbourhoods were under a mandatory evacuation order over the weekend and the entire communities of High River and Bragg Creek were evacuated. By Monday afternoon, most Calgarians had been allowed to return to their homes. They have been asked to stay home on Monday and Tuesday while recovery efforts continue in the downtown core.

TML expresses sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who tragically perished in the floods. TML expresses solidarity with the first responders and emergency personnel who have worked tirelessly to rescue those stranded by flood waters, using helicopters, trucks, combines, tractors and whatever means possible to move people to safety and shelter. TML salutes the tireless efforts of public sector and utility workers and others making enormous efforts to safeguard the water and power supply, maintain telecommunications networks, keep hospitals open, look after the sick and vulnerable, and keep people safe despite their own personal situations. TML also salutes the efforts of fellow citizens at emergency shelters who are providing for those who have been relocated.

Homes, businesses, bridges, roadways, sports complexes and government buildings have all suffered major damage. The Trans-Canada highway was blocked in several places for over 24 hours and many bridges, highways and roads are closed in Southern Alberta due to structural damage.

Those who have been evacuated from flooded communities and towns have been forced to find refuge with family, friends and in overnight shelters and residences set up by the government and the Red Cross. As well, electrical power was cut off for several days in 25 neighbourhoods in Calgary, including the downtown core. Power is slowly being restored in some areas, while in others, there is no estimate as to when power can be restored. These are the worst floods in the history of Southern Alberta. Military forces and helicopters have been called in and emergency forces from across the country are assisting.

Media reports indicate that in the City of Calgary, most of the 75,000 affected residents found shelter with friends and family, with several thousand taking refuge in emergency shelters. Calgarians are assisting in many ways, opening their doors, offering spare rooms, water, food and other items, showing the spirit and sense of responsibility people have to assist each other. People have donated large amounts of food and clothing to the temporary facilities where homeless Calgarians were re-located. The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre which offers shelter, meals and assistance in finding employment to Calgary’s homeless was forced to evacuate from its downtown location, and its basement stores of clothing and other necessities have been lost to the floods. At its new location, long lines of cars formed as people dropped off donations of food, clothing, toiletries and blankets.

A TML correspondent visited some of the evacuation centres and spoke with residents who had made their own way to these centres. Initially, evacuation and overnight centres were set up in the southern end of the city. Within hours of the first emergency evacuation notification, several communities in the northwest sector of the city were given evacuation notices.Road closures due to the flooding posed a problem, particularly for vulnerable low income people heading to shelters. Several people TML spoke with spent the first night in their vehicles and then made their way to the centre. Others who had no transportation were driven by neighbours to the evacuation centres. Many people arrived with not much more than a change of clothes. Some of the initial evacuation centres were closed and everyone relocated to residences at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Mount Royal University and other overnight shelters set up in recreation centres around the city. Although there is an emergency preparedness plan, providing assistance to in low cost housing and without transportation was not well planned and many people had to fend for themselves in the pouring rain and flood conditions. Most of those affected have no idea when they will be able to return to their homes or what condition they will find them in.

At this time people in Southern Alberta are mainly concerned with the immediate situation they face and helping those most affected. But it is crucial that the people be involved in summing up the lessons of the flood. These floods and the devastation and damage they leave in their wake pose some serious issues for the people. One is the fact that even though these floods caused by overflowing rivers are termed “natural disasters” beyond the control of human beings, why is more not done to deal with the capacity of dams and water diversion to deal with the water flow? It is the social responsibility of governments to take more preventative measures. This emergency also shows the importance of people becoming organized in their communities and neighbourhoods to prepare themselves in a very practical way, so that the human factor, the people themselves, are the decisive organized factor in these situations.

Demo in Solidarity With Line 9 Blockade a success

Today Grand River Indigenous Solidarity held a emergency demo in front of City hall in Solidarity with Line 9 protestors in Flamboro who recieved an injuction to stop there blockade.

Currently people are locked in inside, protestors outside and across the street despite the injuction. In solidarity with these protestors who are protesting the illegal violation of Indigenous territory and general enviromental and social fuckery committed by those pushing forward line 9, people gathered gave speeches and handed out lots of literature.

Most people were very receptive and the turnout was good. All in all this was a good show of solidarity with those putting there necks on the line for clean waterr and basic rights

Anti Colonialist Working Group Visit British Consulate to demand that they Repatriate Micheal Campbell

on June 24th a delgation from Anticolonialist Working Group Were outside the Bay St. Entrance of the British Consulate demanding that they Repatriate Micheal Campbell. Given the fact that the consulate is full of idiot security and assholes we got the event to be posted on various pages monitered by Brits stating the event would be Wed.

As well several people that are known to security, police etc., myself included, went to various places and acted suspisous (eg. smoking, drinking coffee, sending txts etc) to draw attention away from other protestors who attempted to infiltrate the building and take over the consulate. Seening the extra security inside and how people who were not protestors were catching flack, they decided that it was improbable to make it to the 28th floor, where the Consulate is and instead set up a info picket with a banner that read “Bring Micheal Campbell home” (most people dont know what repatriate means and its hard to spell) on the Bay st. enterence handing out flyers.

Sitting outside the college st. entrence, we started calling the consulate demanding that Micheal Campbell be repatriated until they turned there phone off. Finally after having quite a few pigs, security etc. staring at me, and the security feeling that they were tricked, Mr. “make that two more” (a member of consulate security who thinks he can an people for no reason for two more years) came outside and started yelling and threatening to arrest me “next time he sees my face” muttering shit like he has my info and will write me a tresspass notice, when i told him he cant arrest people n the public sidewalk cause he doesnt like how they look, and that if thats how he feels please write me a ban, he got more huffy and puffy muttering thing like he can do what he wants etc. showing his stupidity.

All in all the event was a sucess, awareness was raised, and they dont have photos of the second group i think (the bay st. entrence cameras arent pointed to the sidewalk i think). The fact that they were stopping potential protestors who were not protestors based on looks etc. and giving civilians flack demonstrates to the pulic the lenghths that they will go to to stop people from raising issues like there human rights abuses in the occupied six counties and suits us fine!!

Year Zero, Tent City and RAAD

i get to tent city everything is packed up, most people left because they didnt want to get arrested and the consensus was that we would move into Sandhills park, by this time its like midnight and we cant get a car to move the shit so we have to do it by hand, finally we are set up and we start a small fire and start roasting sausages. My friend whom I helped get off of heroine joins us and hes been clean for four years now, i went to highschool with him so we start talking about back in the day shit, like when we use to steal wine from my parents house, then they put it is a locked room, and we would smash the locks, until they got better locks, and we learned to take the hindges off , finally it got to the point where my parents had to cement the windows and stuff. We talk about old Anti Facist fights we use to get in with the NAZI’s till we chased them out of town, and all sorts of shit.

The discussion moves to more depressing shit like our mutual friend who was chooped up into peaces and her torso was found in a dumpster over 40 bucks, he then tells me that he was a a local shelter and some scumbag injected a 14 year old with morphine and meth and how the staff and everyone thought it was funny, and the guy was like hopefully she will take off all her clothing. We continue to talk and the sunject goes on to another back in the day friend of ours who was very proud to be drug free who decided to try smack once and how shortly after we had to bury him. Tent City Relocated across from Gentrified lofts!!!

Despite the fact that the Multi Cultural festival is two days from now, and the fact that we were in touch with the organizors by law and city officials told us to vacate the park. This was done when several organizors were running around from beurocrat to Beurocrat trying to tell them the arrangement we made with organizors.

Ironically this move by the city comes at a time when the media is starting to pay attention and gather support.

Despite editors of the bourgoise press removing all comments made by organizers of the anti G8 tent city remotley political from articles and news, more and more people have decided to come join us or at least find out what we are really about.

We have decided to move the tent city across the street from the Arrow Lofts. Arrow was one of the biggest employers in Kitchener until like Caterpillar in London and other closed shop as a result of the economic policys of groups like the G8. Building luxury apartments that working class people cant afford and intensifying the gentrification is part of everything that is wrong with the G8.

We are there and will continue to give out food, raise awareness of the economic policys of the rich and raise awareness and support for those colonised here and abroad who are resisting.

Who is Michael Campbell?
Michael Campbell (“Michael”) is an Irish Citizen from Faughart, Co. Louth. He has been imprisoned in Lithuania since 28th of January 2008 in conditions which have been described by Professor Rod Morgan, a renowned Home Office advisor to the UK Criminal Justice Inspectorate, as “Inhuman and degrading”.

Michael is an Irish Republican. Following an “Entrapment ‘Sting’ organised and orchestrated by British Military Intelligence (MI5) and an unnecessarily prolonged and difficult trial (which lasted over 2 years) He was sentenced in October 2011 to 12 year’s imprisonment.
Since the sentence was handed down MI5 (Via the Lithuanian Authorities) have sought to prolong Michael’s time (and suffering) in prison by launching a wholly unmerited appeal. Indeed, in an effort to ensure Michael remains incarcerated in squalid conditions thousands of miles from his family MI5 have sought to delay the appeal by linking it to failed attempts which had previously been made to seek the extradition of his Brother Liám from both the 26 Counties and 6 Counties : both of these extradition attempted have been rejected by the courts in the 26 & 6 Counties, on the basis of squalid custodial conditions and the slim possibility of receiving a fair trial in Lithuania. Although appeals have been lodged by the Lithuanian Authorities to the appellate courts they are unlikely to succeed.
What Has Michael Had To Endure?
Following his arrest Michael was refused access to either a legal adviser or interpreter for 48 hrs. It was only on the 4th day after his arrest that an English speaking Lawyer was permitted to visit Michael.
During his trial, which was beset with many delays, Michael’s family were prohibited from attending court sessions. Also, many days of the hearing were held in closed court without adequate interpretation.
Both before and after sentencing Michael has been held “incommunicado” for extended periods without access to family visits (up to 2 years in total so far) or phone calls (up to three years in total so far)
The Prison Conditions
Prison conditions in Lithuania have been the subject of a number of inspections and reports prepared by the European Committee for the prevention of Torture and inhuman or Degrading Treatment or punishment (‘CPT’) and have been described as remaining “in a deplorable state…inhuman and degrading”. In very brief summary, Michael has had to personally endure the following :-
1. Being held in a very small, dirty, damp cell for 23 hours per day with 3 other prisoners. Note: the cell is tiny, has minimal light, broken windows, is infested with maggots and cockroaches and inmates are only permitted 1 hours exercise per day in a restricted yard,
2. Being forced to toilet in the cell without privacy. Note: the ‘toilet’ is no more than a non partitioned hole in the floor;
3. Having to ration toilet paper because each cell (of 4 prisoners) is given only 3 rolls a month in total;
4. being deprived of adequate or private personal hygiene facilities. Note: Showers are communal and restricted to 1 (cold) shower per week. Some weeks no showers are permitted at all. On occasions Michael has had to chase rats from the showers;
5. Having to live on meagre food rations which would have a value of £0.80 per day. Note : In response to a recent query on this point the Lithuanian authorities have attempted to argue that this is adequate;
6. Having to melt snow to get drinking water; and
7. having to sit on a newspaper on the floor or on his bed to eat. Note: the cell contains only 1 chair and Michael’s bed – which is often damp from the rain coming in through the broken windows – has an impossibly thin mattress ;
Current Position
All Michael wants to do is serve the remainder of his 12 year sentence in Ireland. This would mean he could be close to his family and be kept in the same Prison Conditions any Irish man or woman is entitled to be kept in. As an Irish National, Michael is entitled to seek Repatriation to Ireland for this purpose and as a supposed member of the European Union the Lithuanian authorities should agree to this request.
The Problem however is that Michael is not currently deemed eligible for repatriation to Ireland. Why is this? The answer is because eligibility for repatriation does not arise until all legal affairs in Lithuania have been concluded, and the MI5 backed Lithuanian authorities have filed an unmerited appeal against Michael’s sentence.
It is undoubtedly because of the above principle that the appeal was lodged and thereafter any means possible adopted to elongate the process. As at today’s date, over 18 months since the appeal was lodged, it has still not been heard. Indeed the Lithuanian prosecutor Mr Gedgaudas Norkunas has recently sought to persuade the Court that Michael’s appeal
Should be stayed even further (i.e. stalled indefinitely) until all extradition hearings in the ROI and NI are completed. That could take years! Perhaps even longer than Michael has to serve in terms of the remainder of his current sentence.
Michael’s appeal is due to be brought back before the Court on 27th June 2012. His Lawyers are arguing to have the appeal actually heard on this date. This would be the only right and proper event.

Another Day at Tent City

“you got a smoke” I ask my friend as i sit down after bringing three bags of sandwich meat bread and cheese. I thought you were suppose to cook, my friend says to me, yeah well i ran out of time, so fuck it, this is good enough, now pass me a smoke. We sit down by the bench and i light a ciggerrette. i got 200 copys of the 32 statement on the g8 and 200 from the independent Republican we should start handing them out. We go to both enterances of the park and in an hour or so they are gone.

i sit down and light another smoke I mooched when a woman approuches us, she is holding the statements in her hand and starts asking questions. At first im like thinking its gonna be one of those people who is like fuck you but she is actually really supportive. We keep talking about the G8, the austerity that they are imposing here and the crimes they are perpetrating abroad. She’s like im glad Canadian people are starting to wake up. my friend points out the irony that she is talking to me, a Salvadorian, an Ojibway and only one person that fits the discription of “Canadian”. im like we are having a planning meeting tommorrow at four if you can come. Shes like im Palestinian, my people know all about colonialism, and after we talk about whats going on now in Gaza and Syria she said that she will bring her whole family. my friend said the mayor was going to be invited in the next few days to talk to those affected by austerity and gentrification. She leaves and my friend is like what the fuck we dont have any meeting planned for tommorrow, im like we never planned to invite the mayor, fuck my other friend says can we get an invitation to the mayor, im like sure well bring it up with others and im sure that we can throw something together, can we get a meeting going for tommorrow? Lets bring it up with others and see.

We then notice that quite a few of our sighns are removed, all of them being the anti cops sighns and pro Republican sighns so we decide to make new ones, in the course of this several of us are having a discussion aout what the G8 is and why we are here, so we make a sighn that explains it in simple terms so all can understand.We also make sighns explaining that this is a peoples park cops not welcome, sighns in solidarity with Irish peoples just strugglle for self determination and some poetic sighns. The police keep on stoping people outside the park and they accost some older Latin American for a stop and search. Of course we are there taking pictures and making sure its all good, we continue our patrol and see the cops hassling other people, pull out our cellphones take pictures etc.

Back at base camp theres an arguement going on about Veganism vs meat eating and its getting heated so i try to change the subject. one person is ranting about the futility of protest and the need to live off the grid, im like its not either or people can learn both.

Quite a few others stop, read our sighns etc and we get into several discussions aout the G8, Austerity, there war agenda and the illegal occupation of the Six Counties by the Brits. All are posative except for an SF’er that stops by to say that our support for POWS is undermining the peace process, but he has little to say about the drones etc. being used against those protesting the G8 hooligans, illegal internment etc.

Quite a few other people thank us for bringing up these issues and letting people know that the occupation and war are not over.

i take a walk and buy a pack of smokes and in aout half an hour they are gone. i sit on the bench y myself and think about the idea of the futility of protest, not in context of our previous direct actions which have improve the lives of countless people but specifically this one. Do I think that thsi occupation will stop the G8, no, Do i think that this tent city will end austerity, no, am i so dillusional to think that this protest will stop the illegal occupation of Northern Ireland, the genocide of indigenous people here, or the death squads butchering children in Colombia, Palestine etc…..No

So why do it?

First there are the immediate needs that we are addressing, providing food, shelter etc, to those that need it regarless of political ideology, in other words taking social responsability if the state will not meet peoples basic rights then we must rely on ourselves to do it, secound we are politicising people and in the process shattering the media blackout on the crimes of the imperialists,but most importantly we are taking a stand and by doing so demonstrating that resistance is not futile but rather fertile.

Most people thoguht we would be kicked out in a day…we were not…..we took our stand in Victoria Park, the biggest symbol of British colonialism in Kichener with statues dedicated to Queen Victoria, a union jack and various bullshit and patronising plaques, and refused to back down and by doing so we showed that it is possible to resist the state. By doing this we politize people not by reading speeches of Marx, Mao etc. but rather by by giving a concrete example, providing something tangeble, giving people something to defend.

Tent City may not be perfect, but those who hold illusions that after the revolution we will live in the land of milk and honey are just kidding themselves. its nice to talk aout the new society but until people take action to create it, whatever it may be its just discussion and a matter of taste eg. do i like Kropotkin, trotsky or Mao. By this we are not only teaching people to justly support peoples war against imperialism in other countrys under occupation, nor are we just opposing the Anglo American imperialist alliance, but we are building the groundwork for our new society here.

Tent City in Solidarity with g 8 protestors in occupied Ireland a success

On june 17th members of anti colonialist working group, occupy and others liberated Victoria Park in Kitchener and set up a tent city in solidarity with anti colonialists and Irish Republicans in the occupied six counties protesting the presence of criminal organizors known as the g8 meeting to impose criminalization and austerity on the people in occupied Ireland.

The event started with people hanging up banners on the bridges stating …British Death Squads Out of Ireland….Tent City…. Peoples Park,pigs not welcome and other such things….

A member of Anti Colonialist working group then proclaimed that this was now a peoples park and PAVIS and other police organizations are not welcome. Tents were set up, food was distributed and statements from Independent Irish Republican Brendan Casey and 32 CSM were read denouncing the G8 criminals attack on Irish soverieghnty.The 32CSM statement can be found at http://www.32csminternational.blogspot.com

The event continued with local hip hop artists rapping about the crimes of the imperialists in Latin America as well as beat boxing. Thus was followed by people chalking anti PSNI/RUC Solgans as well as anti g8 slogans.

Despite this there was no police precense making organizors thing that they were up to something, which we later found out that they were when we discovered that they were hiding in trees and attempted to ruin our night by calling bylaw enforcement and complaining that we had a make shift fire going.

Despite this we still have the park and will keep it. Today we are going to photocopy the statements we read and hand them out, as well as serve food and do other thing.
